Pipe Sterilisation
In response to increased legislation and public awareness, pipe and tank sterilisation was established at CLS in 1998, utilising our vast experience in both microbiological and chemical analysis. CLS’s dedicated team of specialists liaises with our clients at every stage of the process, from Legionella Risk Assessments to analysis and interpretation of results.
Employers’ Responsibility and Guidelines:
Under occupational health and safety legislation* there is a legal obligation on employers to carry out a risk assessment in relation to Legionella prevention and control in the workplace.
*Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Biological Agents) Regulation, 1994 as amended in 1998. Regulation 4
As requested by the Department of Health and Children in 2003, a Scientific Advisory Committee was set up by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre with the goal of reviewing current guidelines in Ireland for the control of Legionellosis.
This document “National Guidelines for the control of Legionellosis in Ireland, 2009” has recently been published and outlines the measures for all institutions in Ireland for Legionella Control. Although adapted from the L8 standard there may be some items of change that you may wish note, particularly with regards to Risk Assessments, Sampling and Training.
