Jackie Gibney graduated from Galway Mayo Institute of Technology with a Diploma in Fine
Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals and an Honours Degree in Biopharmaceuticals and Healthcare Science. She worked as a technician in the Microbiology department for 8 years. She successfully completed an RBAI Food Safety Management Systems Auditor/Lead Auditor course and carries out Food Safety Audits to IS 340:2007 and IS 341:2007 standards.

In January 2007, she set up the Health Screening department within CLS where Infectious Disease screening and Cotinine testing is carried out on oral fluid samples using the OraSure® collection device. Customers of the service include a number of Irish financial institutions. Her responsibilities now include the professional, organisational, promotional and administrative duties for this department.
